Boyzone Get Emotional During Stephen Gately`s Funeral
Stephen Gately`s funeral has been held on Saturday, October 17 in his homeland Dublin, Ireland. More than one thousand of mourners, including fellow celebrities and fans, gathered at St. Lawrence O`Toole`s Church, to say goodbye to the late singer. During the private ceremony, his band mates in Boyzone, Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy, and Shane Lynch, got very emotional when they read eulogies.
"If he was here right now he would say `Ro I`m looking for a stained glass window, if you see any around let me know,`" Ronan broke down in tears as he talked about his friend. He then continued, "We have lost our brother and I have lost my wing man. For Stephen we`ll carry on but it`ll never be the same without him."
Later, Mikey described Stephen as "quiet and guarded in private." He added, "Stephen`s love for Andrew was true and only last week he told me how lucky he felt to have him by his side." Meanwhile, Keith, who also shared his moments with Stephen, called him "a true giant of a man."
After the funeral, Stephen`s body was taken to the crematorium at Glasnevin cemetery for a private family ceremony. The day after, his ashes were taken by his husband Andrew Cowles to London, where they shared a house together.
